The Dauphiné is certainly an important e...Hi there<br /><br />The Dauphiné is certainly an important event but it has always been first and foremost a preparation race for the Tour. To me Millar's best career win is the Volta a Catalunya 1985 when he beat fair and square Kelly and all of the best Spaniards. The 2nd most important race in the Spanish calendar, Volta a Catalunya is one week long and has more prestige and history than the Dauphiné ever will.<br />Also, 1984-87 were Millar"s real "glory days"... leader status, potential Tour winner status, polka dot jersey, 2nd place overall in two Vueltas and one Giro (the way he lost the Vuelta 1985 is heartbreaking) not to mention a Kellogs Start TV commercial and a 5-page article in "The Face" (!)<br />By 1990 Robert was 31 years old and considered as sorta over the hill actually.<br /><br />RegardsMikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04995700293867493733noreply@blogger.com
