Bottle cap fame

Jose Luis Laquia's (top) very cool collectible bottle cap.
Three others including Marc Sergeant!

I suppose baseball trading cards are one of the earliest forms of sports memorabilia. The Japanese came out with the first sets in the late 1800s. I featured a recent post on a rare Steve Bauer card here.

The old world of cycling is definitely in Europe. I discovered a fun and interesting collection of cycling heroes from the past on the back of pop bottle caps. I could only make out the names of Marc Sergeant and Jose Luis Laguia.

Laguia holds an unique record in the Vuelta. He is the five time record holder of the mountain classification. Riding for the famous Reynolds squad (1980-1989) he won consecutively in; 1981, 1982, 1983,  and 1985 & 1986.

Very cool, eh. I don't know much more about them, except judging by the period jerseys... around the eighties.
