The dangerous descent from the Sormano was too much for four riders. Laurens De Plus dramatically flew over the guardrail and into the ravine and miraculously escaped serious injury. Not for Jan Bakelants captured afterwards by Kramon shows his Factor bike hanging in the trees, an ominous image. Bakelants suffered seven broken ribs, two fractures to his spine. At the same spot, Simone Petilli has serious injuries. And Daniel Martinez also crashed on the same corner with minor injuries.
