Food for thought
E3 Harelbeke is the only race named after a motorway. Yesterdays race was typical a Belgian classic: plenty of Hellingen (15 climbs), five cobbled and cold/windy conditions. Pre-race favorite, Greg Van Avermaet looked forward to a repeat win. As the race developed with 108km to go a massive crash took out many riders and their chances. With 70km to go, Quick Step revved up their motor and favourites, Sagan, Van Avermaet and VanMarcke were forced to chase. It wasn't enough as it was Quick Step's day as Niki Terpstra soloed to victory with Philippe Gilbert in second. Last year's winner Greg Van Avermaet took home third and a chocolate bike.
"I know how annoying team dominance can be."
- Niki Terpstra, Quick Step Floors
"Actually, we always take control of the race. Taking a race in our hands is in our nature."
- Yves Lampaert, Quick Step Floors
