Second is almost good as first
Former cyclocross World Champion, Ceylin Del Carmen Alvarado returned after two weeks with the flu and finished in second place behind Lucinda Brand in the World Cup at Antwerp. Alvardo was forced to pull out during the World Cup at Terralba two weeks ago due to sickness. She was back in action at Antwerp and was the only rider to follow Brand in the final two laps.
“I had gone deep from the beginning to the end of the day. It was very tight racing. A bit technical, of course, because of the sand but tactical as well. At the end, Brand was, of course, the strongest. It was going to be a bit difficult for me anyway (to win), because my candle went out a bit towards the end.”

Unbeatable
“It was a good race, but I don’t think I was the best in the sand today. I made quite a few mistakes on the longer sections, but I felt already way better than last week. The legs just felt stronger. Of course, this is also a completely different course, but I felt already during the week, I was felling a bit fresher than I was before Namur. So yeah, I’m happy to win again today.”
-Mathieu van der Poel
“For the first time this season, I had back problems. I need to get that checked out. I tried to find something positive, to challenge myself in the sand, even though the race was long gone. But I kept coming up against myself.”
-Thibau Nys. The World Cup leader finished in 23rd place.
