Gran Camino: Yates climbs to the lead, Besancon, Brabantse Pijl

With a stinging solo attack on the steep slopes of the Alto de Cabeza de Meda, Adam Yates (UAE Emirates) won stage 4 of O Gran Camino and moved into the lead of the race. Making his move with 3.8km to go, Yates extended his advantage to the line that marks his first win of the season. The Briton crossed the line some 46 seconds ahead of the second-placed Jorgen Nordhagen (Visma). Yates takes a 34-seconds ahead of lead over the young Norwegian into Saturday’s final stage.

“The climb at the end was super steep, and when it is this steep you don’t really feel the wind, so it was also quite hot. We went full gas from the bottom, it was a hard climb, a hard effort, and thankfully I was able to finish off the job.”

-Adam Yates
