Huge praise goes to Ryder Hesjedal (Garmin) for giving his all for a well fought tenth place at Eroica Toscana. I think it’s the gravel, hilly roads that really make him tick. He says that he enjoys this race so much that it reminds him of the unpaved dirt tracks that he trains on around Victoria, British Columbia. And being a former mountain bike champion is a plus. His successful move pulling away with three other riders seem to worked before being caught during the last few kilometers.

“I love it, the race’s blend of gravel roads with the hilly, punchy climbs. It seem to come easy, I was a little bit surprised,” added the Canadian.

Fellow compatriots that also deserve honorable mention are first timers, Dominque Rollin (Cervelo TT, 18th) & Svein Tuft (Garmin, 46th)

After this result, Hesjedal (also being the top North American) moves closer to potential victory in le strade bianche!

Daring to win!
