Giro time coming

Pink Sizzle!

All cycling fans are getting set to follow the Giro d'Italia starting this Saturday with the dynamic TTT in Turin.

And, it's the 150th year of Italian unification and fittingly National Champion, Giovanni Visconti will wear bib number 150. Alberto Contador is back in the spotlight and penned in to be the heavy favorite. He'll have to watch his backside big time because the shark Vincenzo Nibali will be circling looking for the pink treasure. But, never underestimate compatriot Michele Scarponi who will be looking to better last years fourth place finish. The Geox twins of Denis Menchov and Carlos Sastre will certainly be strong and will bring their talents upwards, don't count them out.

The specter of ominous mountain finishes loom on stage 13, 14 & 15. That's where the real racing will be with the dance up the Dolomites. The new Monte Crostis (an unknown) before the Zoncolan beast will be amazing to watch. The descent 'off' the Monte Crostis, in the words from Cyclingnews, a near vertical drop off ...at the side of the narrow road. That's sinister in the making and I'm looking forward to thrills and hopefully no spills.

The Passo Giau is the highest point and the first rider to reach it wins the coveted Cima Coppi prize. It's not over, the Passo Fedaia is next to scale finishing to the top of the Val Di Fassa. After the second rest day, the mountain TT is next up. I hope the riders will be ready, in fact, I'm ready to watch it...

This Giro will be epic.

A teaser to get your Italian heart pumping!
