1:17

An exciting ending to a crash filled stage 1 as Philippe Gilbert convincingly took care of business.

Cadel Evans emerged from the remnants of the chasing pack put in a good dig to follow the Belgium master and may have pulled off precious, valuable time to separate himself from Contador. He was only 3 seconds behind Gilbert, is second overall and more importantly 1:17 in front of Contador.

Tomorrow, is the TTT and with the help from his crack BMC soldiers they can put even more time between Contador. It's early days in the Tour and time makes a huge difference between losing and winning... Cadel Evans is hopeful.

Gilbert...
Masterclass win!

Cadel in a good position.

The God of Thunder (third) put in a huge effort.
