Maglia Rosa: Taylor Phinney & Garmin's Strength

A big BMC Phinney win!

BMC can finally breathe a sigh of relief and put their dismal classic season away (write it off that is) and congratulate Taylor Phinney in the huge win column.

Phinney blasted his way to win the opening TT in Herning to wear the Maglia Rosa. He becomes the third American to claim that distinction along with Christian Vande Velde (2008) and Andy Hampsten (1988 winner).

If there's any indication, the fact that 5 Garmin-Barracudas finishing soundly in the top-17, of their strength then the GBs will be the team to beat in the Verona TTT. And of the GC contenders, Ryder 'Weight of the Nation' Hesjedal rode magnificently 29secs behind placing 17th and is now in 16th on the GC. Showing that he's one of the contenders in form. Next overall contender, Roman Kreuziger finished a scant 7secs behind Hesjedal and I'll add the veteran Ivan Basso (10secs behind Hesjedal).

Pre-favorites behind Phinney; Joaquim Rodriguez was 0:43s, Frank Schleck (0:59s), Damiano Cunego (1:03) & Michele Scarponi (1:06).

Rydering well!
