The Eagle soaring!
1954 Tour de France...
Here's the Eagle of Toledo, Federico Bahamontes in the Alps. This may be on stage 12 on the Col du Tourmalet where he displayed his climbing talents. In his first season as a professional he soared as a climber. Well known for his upright riding style he liked to ride with his shorts pulled high on his thighs. The Spanish cycling federation picked him to ride this Tour and the national coach said, 'Try to win this.'
He won the mountains competition, his first of six, and finish in 25th overall.
