The honor of winning with the rainbow jersey was carried forth with Philippe Gilbert's Vuelta win in Tarragona. It almost looked set for Eddy the Boss Boasson Hagen to secure his first stage of this exciting Vuelta - but the rainbow stripes blew pass him to win. A perfect ending and more relief than anything for PhilGil finishing on a taxing rise for many, that played in his favor.
"I was thinking just one word - 'finally' - as I came over the line, because I've come very close a few times but this year has been very difficult, also there was a lot of pressure with the world championships so soon, so the situation was getting intense. Everybody wanted me to win, they wanted to see that first time finally arrive, so you can say it was a very great moment to be able to get that victory."
- Philippe Gilbert
The pressure cooker is heating up for him for the world road race in Florence to deliver another win. But, it won't be easy - there's a guy name Peter Sagan standing in his way. The Terminator mentioned that his goal in Canada is to target Quebec and Montreal. His second win in the Tour of Alberta notwithstanding!
Tour of Sagan
No. 2 for No. 2 in the world rankings.
