Friday File: Gianni Bugno, Castorama, Il Pirata, Hurt & Cool 1964 Tour

It's Valentine's Day and birthday wishes go to 1990 Giro champion, Gianni Bugno tuning 50 years old! He strongly won the opening day ITT, wore the Maglia Rosa all the way to the last stage in Milan. Some of my cycling heroes (Bugno, L. Fignon, M. Lejarretta, C. Chiappuci, world champ - G. LeMond) are well represented in this great time capsule video of the 1990 race. It's in Italian but there's plenty of fine footage to satisfy even the most fickle cycling fans. Also, please note one of the most outrageous kits of that era...

The wool jerseys are cool, the cycling caps are cool, the steel bikes are cool and dipping in for a bottle of something cool to drink ...is cool, too!
