Tough Guys Wear Pink In The Rarified Air

I'm predicting Cadel Evans to win the Giro d'ltalia on account of his incredible form (winner of the hilly Giro del Trentino and stage 3) and overall vast knowledge of riding GTs. I have a lot of respect for the former Tour and world champion as his 37 years indicate a certain direction towards retirement. His immediate goal is to become the first Aussie to win the Giro, I think he can do it.

It certainly won't be a cake walk as this mountainous Giro will bring out the best climbers in the rarified air. Domenico Pozzovivo, Przemyslaw Niemiec and Tim Wellens (talented Belgian climber for Lotto) are riders to watch. I'm especially looking at Colombians; Nairo Quintana, Julian Arredondo, Fabio Duarte and Rigoberto Uran. All four mountain specialists will certainly be up there for mountain stage wins, and probably win one each, but Quintana and Uran will give Evans the Fight For Pink.






Domenico Pozzovivio stands 5 ft 5, 115 pounds is the smallest rider at the Giro. When the roads go up so does he - quickly. That's his amazingly small 48cm Focus Izalco.

Possovivo is good and has won a lot of summit finishes, especially back when he was riding for the Colnago team (is he still riding for them?). Rigoberto Uran is also a talented climber, but is more of a power climber than a pure climbing specialist. I have to disagree with you about Cadel Evans though. He's getting up there in years and I just don't believe, based on his performance last year, that he is going to be able to hang with the young guys. To me it's going to come down to the pure climbers in the race, namely Quintana and Possovivo. And if this year's TDF is laid out anything like last year, Quintana won't be doing anyone any favors. I can see Quintana being the first Colombian to win a grand tour since the 80's.
