My first impression of Colombian cycling was watching the 1983 Tour de France with the exploits of the Colombian amateur team proved inspiring. First time riding in the world's biggest grand tour and obvious underdogs didn't intimidate them going wheels to wheels against the best riders. Patrocinio Jimenez showed his quiet tenacity wearing the polka dot climbers jersey finishing 17th overall and 2nd in the mountains classification.
