Las Salinas de Torrevieja is an impressive natural park with a canal created of obtaining salt from the ocean in the 13th century thus the huge piles of salt. The Vuelta a Espana began with the opening stage 13.4km TTT. EF Education First set a fast time but by the stage end finished 14'58 for fourth, 7" slower than the stage winning time set by Astana.
"We did a great job of working together to achieve the best possible result. It wasn't enough to win, but we can absolutely walk away with our heads held high heading into tomorrow's stage."
