Le Samyn

Will Hugo Hofstetter go for a double?

After the opening weekend in Flanders, the peloton goes to Wallonia for the 53rd Le Samyn. Created in 1968 as the Grand Prix de Fayt-le-France renamed in 1970 as the Grand Prix Jose Samyn in tribute to the first winner who died in the race in 1969.

This race has cobblestones, country lands, open roads, and wind worthy of any Flandrian classics as the Walloon cycling season opens near Dour. There are five cobble sectors, including two uphill sectors that will test the hardest Flandrian.

Mathieu Van der Poel is the favorite but Israel Start-up Nation is here with a strong squad. Will Hugo Hofstetter achieve the double? His teammate Rudy Barbier is very good on the cobbles and in the sprint. And, after third in Omloop Sep Vanmarcke anticipates a victory in Dour.
