After Liege-Bastogne-Liege, Guillaume Martin completed more than three weeks of altitude training in Sicily, in particular on the slopes of Etna, to adapt to Italian roads. The French climber will target victory in the six mountain stages and aim for the general classification.
"During the three-week course in Sicily and on the slopes of Etna, I worked well, rode well. I had only one day of racing before the Giro (Liege-Bastogne-Liege) so it will be a bit of an unknown. But I hope to build pressure throughout the three weeks and I am very happy to discover this Grand Tour. It will be a first. I have good memories in Italy of having won a stage in the Tour of Sicily and another in the Tour of Tuscany. This is a race that is very suitable for climbers and should be suitable for me too!"

Gent-Wevelgem champion, Biniam Girmay will make his Giro debut and the opening stage in Budapest looks like a good target.
"It's the dream of all cyclists to win in a Grand Tour, specially the Tour and Giro, the biggest races. A Black rider has never won a stage of a Grand Tour. So it's a big ride."
-Biniam Girmay
"From the start of Budapest, a number of great opportunities await our 22-year-old Eritrean. In the first Tour of Italy for our team, last season, we achieved success thanks to the attacking racing style that is so unique to us. We want to keep this identity for the next three weeks."
