Louis Meintjes distanced his breakaway group one by one and finished solo, stage 9 winner. He took the second victory in the Vuelta for Intermarche-Wanty-Gobert Materiaux after Rein Taaramaes win on top of the Picon Blanco last year. Louis Meintjes, age 31 takes his first World Tour win, his second success of this season after the Giro dell'Appennino. The South African climbs to sixteenth position.
