Santiago Buitrago, Tour de Romandie: Woods looks to repeat

On the rise

Santiago Buitrago had a brilliant ride in the 109th edition of the Liége-Bastogne-Liége. He became the first Colombian to reach the podium of La Doyenne. After Remco Evenepoel had no problem defending his title, the fight for second and third was absolutely thrilling between Tom Pidcock, Ben Healy and Buitrago. The Colombian made the first move overtaking Healy into second but a few meters from the finish, Pidcock had enough to pass him. Santiago Buitrago adds another achievement with Bahrain Victorious. In 2022 he won a stage in the Giro d'ltalia, a stage in the Saudi Tour and a stage in the Vuelta a Burgos.

Looking to repeat his success

Mike Woods is back at the Tour de Romandie, where he hopes to repeat his success from 2021, a race in which he finished 5th overall and won a stage.

"I want to be competing for the podium, or if not a top 5. I won on the stage which finishes in Thyon in 2021 which is essentially the same this year, so I'd like to repeat that performance. Romandie is always a tricky race, after Liege-Bastogne-Liege, mentally it's quite challenging, as you've done one of the hardest Monuments on the calendar, then you have to turn round and race two days later, so it's hard. Normally I'm quite binary at this race, I feel I'm either the best guy in the peloton or the wors, so obviously I'm hoping to be on the better end of the spectrum."
