The Mur de Huy: 1300m, average grade of 9.3%, some sectors: 17%, switchback: 26%.
La Flèche Wallonne goes tomorrow and timing is everything on the Mur. One can't afford to go too soon - and burn their matches or wait too long - and lose out. On the Mur, finding the sweet spot will be key for victory.
“Fléche Wallonne has become quite the atypical race, a king of ‘waiting game’ until the race explodes on the Mur. This is contrary to the trend where the Rae’s are opened quite early. The Fléche is all about waiting, waiting, waiting. In the past years, several riders have tried to avoid the classical scenario but n0 one has succeeded. Maybe Wednesday is the day, we will see, but I think we’re in for the same final. First and foremost, you have to be in good position to start the final climb, then get your timing just right and hope for strong legs and explosivity.”

Bernard Hinault: 1983 La Fléche Wallonne champ.
“Time bonuses at the finish line mean he’s got 20 extra seconds on us now, but me and Santiago are going well, so that’s a good sign for the Giro d’ltalia.”
-Jack Haig
“It’s a nice surprise to have this jersey, but we’re here to win. We have three days left, and so for sure, we’ll keep trying. Now we’re looking forward to Wednesday’s stage and the long climb to the finish. We want to do well.
-Santiago Buitrago
