Giro stage 19: High flying, Brennan in Tour of Norway

 


Nicolas Prodhomme (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) took his first Grand Tour victory soloed to staged 19 of the Giro d'ltalia. The Frenchman showed his form attacking from the breakaway on the penultimate climb with 28km to go. His first pro win in the Tour of the Alps, he was ecstatic to claim the stage.

"I wanted to try to win the stage. I waited a long time for a win - and I won my first race three weeks ago. And now I win here in the Giro d'ltalia. I'm very happy. It was a goal with the team to win one stage, and now it's OK."

Duel on the final bend: Del Torro will receive 6 bonus seconds over Carapaz. Carapaz takes 22 seconds on  third-place Simon Yates

Derek Gee was 11th in Champoluc, remains in 4th on GC

"It was a super hard day out there today. No one could really move on the final big climb but Carapaz and Del Toro managed kick away again into the finish. The boys were amazing and climbed incredibly well today, so I'm a bit frustrated to not have had the legs to move. Tomorrow is a completely different kind of climb, so I'm interested to see how it goes but mostly about getting closer to Rome."

Matthew Brennan keeps on winning and has won the second stage of the Tour of Norway. The British rider was the strongest in a tough punchy uphill sprint in Oltedal. He stayed ahead of Maxim Van Gils and Victory Lagelotti. The young sprinter also took the leader's jersey.
