Lenny Martinez may have finished runner-up on Stage 3, but the young French climbing specialist showed true grit on the Queen Stage, powering and outsprinting Joao Almeida atop the brutal Thyon 2000 climb of the Tour de Romandie. With the victory and 10 bonus seconds, Martinez moved into the overall lead, holding a slim 2-second advantage over Fortunato heading into tomorrow's decisive ITT in Geneva.
"It was a super long climb, so here you just have to try to not go too deep for too long, otherwise you can get tired very quickly. It was really hard, but we rode really well as a pair, and in the end I had the punch to beat Joao Almeida, but he was really strong too.
This morning I woke up and I was thinking maybe I can win today also. I tried the best I could do and in the end I won so I'm super happy."
