Solering to stage 14, Tour of Britain: Belgian confidence

After the inhumane climb of the Angliru, stage 14 was another mountain test through the Asturias region. Marc Soler attacked in the valley ahead of the 16.9km ascent of the Alto de la Farrapona to break clear of his breakaway companions. The Spaniard took his fourth Vuelta stage win, the seventh win of this race for UAE as Jonas Vingegaard took second ahead of Joao Almeida. Jai Hindley finished ten seconds ahead of Tom Pidcock to close in on that final podium spot.

"The idea was not to be in the break, but once Victor Campenaerts got across, I went in there too and followed him, and once I was there, I played the game. I knew the valley road afterwards up to Farrapona was a very hard one; if you get a gap there, then you can keep it. I was worried about the wind, but it turned out OK."

Tour of Britain stage 5...

"We have to try, it's two seconds. There's a GC win up for grabs. It's going to be really difficult, there's only one really big opportunity for that in the final. It's going to rain a lot, so it might be very tricky tomorrow. I'm not going to risk my life for it but I'm going to go for it."
-Remco Evenepoel
