Giro: Relief in Rome

Jonathan Milan ended his long wait for a stage win at the Giro d’ltalia with victory on the final day in Rome, as Jonas Vingegaard completed overall victory and added the Maglia Rosa to this Tour de France and Vuelta a Espana titles. Vingegaard wins the Giro with five stage victories and becomes only the eight men’s rider in history to win all three Grand Tours.

After a Giro of near misses, Milan delivered when it mattered most, winning the final sprint for Lidl Trek. Paul Magnier and Dylan Groenewegen were also well placed in the final kilometre, but Milan found the finishing kick for a powerful win.

Vingegaard makes history

“With Cicco, we did amazing results and I’m super happy to make it today after the last two years of being here but not winning in Rome. Sobrero had to cover the breaks and it was perfect to have him there with Ganna because we didn’t have to chase behind. It was perfect and I’m really happy that I could pay them back with a victory.”
