Tour Rhone Alpes: Rise of the young stars as Del Toro dominates and takes the overall

French rising star, Pau Seixas didn’t complete the Tour Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, as he abandoned on the final day of racing. Having won on stage 7 at the Grand Colombier, Isaac Del Toro took over on the final ascent at the Plateau de Solaison and also claimed the yellow and blue leader’s jersey on the final day. He becomes the first Mexican winner in the 78 editions of the race. He is also the third youngest winner (22-years-old) in the history of the event, behind Greg LeMond (21 years in1983) and Louis Rostollan (22 years), ahead of Bernard Hinault (22 yrs in 1977). The rise of the young stars continue, as 21-year-old Luke Tuckwell hung on to second place of the overall standings. Second on the day, 23-year-old Juan Ayuso completes the podium.

“It’s simply something incredible. I feel honoured. If you had said to me at the beginning of this year I would have won this race, I would. Have doubted you.”

-Isaac Del Toro
