TdF stage 9: Ice packs & the galloping quartet

Mathieu van der Poel claimed his first victory in the 2026 Tour de France by winning the heat shortened ninth stage. The Dutchman was the fastest of a group of four riders who managed to stay ahead of the peloton after a finale full of attacks.Van Der Poel beat Tobias Halland JHohannessen, Tom Pidcock and Alex Baudin in a four-rider uphill sprint in Ussel.

“I spent a lot of energy trying to keep the breakaway alive, ther was a lot of pressure from the bunch. The roads were horrible for a breakaway, headwind the whole day, we really fought for it, and I’m happy to finish it off.”
