Quinn Simmons lead the early breakaway
Quinn Simmons used the six-rider breakaway and surged away alone with 20km to go keeping it all the way to the finish line in the hilltop resort of Heiden. In 2023, the American was riding behind Gino Mader on a descent at the Tour de Suisse when the Bahrain Victorious rider crashed and later died. He spoke months later, and said the incident made him re-consider his career.
"To be honest, I really wanted to win yesterday one the two-year anniversary we lost Gino - I really wanted to win and dedicate that to him, but I do it a day late. The first part of my celebration was for me, my jersey. The last time I was in this jersey, I never won a bike race and had a terrible season. That was a huge motivation to win in the American champion's jersey. I'm not sure that last happened at WorldTour level. The final gesture was to dedicate it to Gino."
