Hennie Kuiper

A hellish day.

The great Hennie Kuiper once said,

"Racing is licking your opponent's plate clean before starting on your own..."

He was one of the great one-day classic riders, Monuments winner and World and Olympic Champion. What I really admire of this hardman is his strength on the cobbles in Paris-Roubaix. Before he won in Hell in 1983 he honed his skills to understand the great race. Here is a glorious image of Kuiper, from 1981, after falling in the mud and chasing back to join the leading group in the Roubaix Velodrome to finish in sixth!
