Greg Van Avermaet and Oliver Naesen will start their 2021 season at Etoile de Besseges - Tour du Gard. Not the race the Classic stars usually start off their season in. Their typical early-season Spanish starts; Tour of Andulasia and Tour of Valencia are COVID cancelled. And, as many races are scrubbed due to pandemic, the early season French races has become a beacon for WorldTour teams.
Next for the Belgian duo is the Tour des Alpes-Maritimes et du Var (February 19-21) before returning to Belgian for the pivotal cobblestone classics: Omloop Het Nieuwsblad (February 29) and Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne (March 1).
"Hopefully it will be okay and I can score a few places of honor. There is nothing better for peace of mind than a few nice places of honor. If you had to go to the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad with only 37th places, I would start to panic slightly."
