What a fantastic ride!

Peter Sagan produced the goods to win his first race of the season.

He was sidelined after testing positive for Covid-19 readjusted his schedule, rode an encouraging fourth at Milan Sanremo, and decided to go to the Volta at the last minute to help his team and accumulating those needed kilometers. Today's stage finish in Mataro along with the sprinters on hand would suit him like a glove.

"It's very good to get the first win of the year. My teammates have done a great job and have controlled the race. It was a very fast day. The Volta is a very tough race from the start, and I am very happy for this victory, especially after the last two difficult months that I have been through in health."

"That was the way we wanted to win and that's how we won. Peter topped off this effort with an excellent sprint. He timed it very well, he waited for the right moment and made the perfect move. I think we saw today the Peter Sagan we always knew. It was a very good day for BORA-hansgrohe."
