Dauphine: Gee’s star is rising, Tour de Suisse stage 1

Teamwork + tenacity = First WorldTour podium finish for Derek Gee. The 26-year-old rider will be making
his debut at the Tour de France in three weeks!

“Coming into the Critérium du Dauphiné, we believed Derek could do a decent GC result here but he exceeded expectations. Purely because of the hard work he has been putting in prior to this, working hard at camp, but not just him, the whole team. We were one of the only teams with four guys left in the end there today so it shows the depth we have in the team and how we are growing. A podium in one of the biggest stage race before on the of the most important races of the season is a clear indication of Derek’s abilities and we look forward to seeing what he can do down the line.

Grand tours, we don’t know yet because it’s difficult to say after three weeks. I believe he has the engine to do it. I think he’s pretty similar to a guy like Geraint Thomas. He’s a guy who can climb well, he’s tall, he can time trial well, he rides well in the flats, enjoys the classics as well. He’s pretty much got the same engine as well.”
-Daryl Impey. DS Israel Premier Tech.

“I was hearing all the gaps (from his DS) all the time. I was happy that the others didn’t go faster. I was just tired. It was close but finally, I’m satisfied for the team.”

-Primoz Roglic wins the Critérium du Dauphiné by 8 seconds.
