With 3 kilometers remaining on the Auron climb Michael Storer (Tudor) and Mauro Schmid (Jayco) left the other breakaway riders behind. The penultimate stage of Paris-Nice had a mixture of rain and snow for brutal conditions. Storer left Schmid behind 2.7 kilometers from the top of the climb for a very important stage victory of Tudor Pro Cycling Team and its Tour de France wild card ambitions. The cold weather conditions did not stop Storer and his great courage. The Australian won stage 7. Mauro Schmid finished second, while Georg Steinhauser took third for EF Education-EasyPost.
"Such a a good day for me and for us. Two-time World Champion Julian Alaphilippe helped me immensely in the breakaway today. We were meant to ride for Julian today, and he can really feel the race. He was the most important guy for the team today. Nice little bonus for me to climb to fifth in the general classification, but the stage win is really incredible."
