The sprint: Gerriste wins & Ewan retires

Femme Gerritse (SDWorx) took an impressive sprint victory on stage 3 of the Vuelta Femenina, denying green jersey Marianne Vos to the line.

"I took the bonus sprint and thought, 'OK, my sprint is good', but the final was so chaotic but I just stayed calm. I felt Marianne coming but I kept first place. It's really crazy."
-Femme Gerristse. With bonus seconds the Dutchwoman takes the leader's red jersey from Leticia Paternoster, who is now third on GC.

The pocket rocket says goodbye:

Caleb Ewan has retired from cycling, with the Australian sprinter saying that the last two seasons took a "significant toll" on his relationship with the sport. The 30-year-old, who signed for Ineos in January, has won two races this season, but wrote on Instagram on Tuesday morning that the feeling of winning faded quicker than it used to".

Ewan won five stages of the Tour de France, five stages at the Giro d'ltalia and a stage of the Vuelta a Espana, as well as many more sprint victories - 65 in total across his 13-season pro career.
