TdS Queen stage 5: Onley wins, Vauquelin leads

Measured success begins for Oscar Onley

On stage 5, Oscar Onley took probably the biggest win of his career to date, denying Joao Almeida in a two-up mountain top sprint. Fourth in the 5th stage, Kevin Vauquelin is the new leader. He has a lead of 29 seconds over Julian Alaphilippe and 39 seconds over Joao Almeida.

"It's been several years of work. I had less experience than some riders with a different program (track). My body was lacking such hard mountain efforts. I managed to move up a gear, and I'm happy about it."

-Kevin Vauquelin (Arkea B&B Hotels)

.

"The team was great. We didn't put a foot wrong all day. In the end I just didn't quite have legs to follow Onley, Almeida and the others today, but there are still a couple hard days to come."
-Matt Riccitello. A season's best result of fifth on stage 5 of the TdS, the American climber moves up to ninth place on GC
