TdF stage 17: Crash, Girmay and hope

In the final kilometre of stage 17, heavy rain caused a crash about fifteen riders hit the ground, with Biniam Girmay suffering the worst injuries. Last year's green jersey winner, Girmay has struggled to replicate last year's form, and after the crash, crossed the line supported by teammates and cradling his shoulder. A couple of hours after the stage, positive news emerged from his Intermarche team reported Girmay had not fractured any bones.  I'm hoping he can start tomorrow's stage, time will tell.

"Following their crashes in the Tour de France stage 17, Louis Barre, Biniam Girmay and Hugo Page received immediate medical attention. They sustained superficial injuries; no fractures or serious injuries were detected. However, given the impact suffered by Girmay in particular, we are closely monitoring his recovery."

Tomorrow's stage 18...

The Alpine stage, which crosses the Col du Glandon, the Col de la Madeleine and finishes on the Col de la Loze, a climb that is making its third appearance in six editions of the Tour de France. It will be a brute of a stage.
