TdP stage2: Lapeira on top. Vuelta a Burgos: Aria on top of Alto del Castillo

Former French national champion Paul Lapeira (Decathlon-AG2R) won stage 2 of the Tour de Pologne with a late surge on the uphill finish of Karpacz - and the leader's jersey as well. Lapeira now leads Mathias Vacek (Lido Trek) by six seconds.

"I had no idea where anybody was, I wasn't looking back. I just looked at the finish line, I didn't know anything until I watched a video afterwards. I knew that my trainin over the last few weeks had been good, but I just had to be able to put it into practice. Now we're going to do everything we can to defend the yellow jersey, but whatever happens, the Tour of Poland will be a good one."

Vuelta a Burgos

We're in August, and the Vuelta a Espana begins on 23 August. Before the last of the three Grand Tours of the year, the 42nd Vuelta a Burgos opened with punchy terrain in Castilla y Leon ending to the steep finish  of the castle in Burgos city.

Pre-race favourite Isaac Toro (UAE) misjudged a corner and crashed, taking out Clasica San Sebastián winner Giulio Ciccone (Lidl Trek) in the process. Roger Adria (Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe) opened up with 400 metres to go, passed by Jordan Labrosse (Decathlon) and looked defeated, then surged and out-sprinting the French rider to his third professional victory atop the Alto del Castillo.

"The team looked after me very well, and I was able to save my legs for this final climb. I entered well and decided to push hard in the last 400 meters, which I already knew. I'm super happy to win in Spain and in the Vuelta a Burgos, which is very beautiful and important in our country. Last year, I finished second in a stage, so I got that sting out of the way."
