Bernal coming through
It was the second time on this Vuelta a Espana, a stage has been stopped prematurely due to the pro-Palestine protests. Egan Bernal outsprinted Mikel Landa to win the shortened stage 16 in Galicia. For Bernal, a testament to his resilience, marked the Colombian's first since his horror crash left him in intensive care inn 2022. He suffered multiple fractures and a punctured lung after colliding with a bus. Doctors told him he had a 95% chance of being paralyzed for life, but returned to racing eight months later.
"After dropping out of the general classification, I really wanted to win. I really wanted to win with the national jersey, which means a lot for me. Aside from the final climb not happening, it was a great ride. It was incredibly tough. It was full throttle all day."
