Stage 21: the final podium...

The final stage of the Vuelta a Espana was abandoned after protesters blocked the finishing circuit in Madrid. The race organization took the decision to end the stage and also cancel the podium ceremony for security reasons.

"It means a lot to me. It's my first Vuelta win and my first Grand Tour win for two years, and to come back from everything that has happened in the last two years is really nice for me. It's nice that I can show that I can still reach a really high level."
-Jonas Vinegegaard

"Before, I didn't enjoy Grand Tours, it was not so much fun. So it is definitely something that has changed that perspective and showed me I can achieve what people closest to me believe I can and my team believes I can. It's a relief, almost. - a weight off my shoulders."
-Tom Pidcock. Third overall

"It was a weird Vuelta, because the decisive stages that we expected to decide the race, did not end up being too decisive. The day with the most time gaps was in theory, on the easiest climb on stage 9. We just made it really hard and the time gaps were super big, so it shows that it is the rider who make the race hard, not the parcours. We can be really proud of the last three weeks, it was a really hard Vuelta."
-Joao Almeida. Second overall

As the podium ceremony were cancelled by the organizers, riders and teams took it upon themselves with some banners and decided to organize an award ceremony in the night at a Madrid hotel parking lot...
