Nys plows through the mud in Oudenaarde
Thibau Nys has started his cyclo cross season at the Koppenberg cross, more than lived up to his favourite status and will be able to defend his leading position in the X20 Badkamers Trophy tomorrow at the Rapencross in Lokeren, Belgium.
“This victory wasn’t handed to me. I had to dig deep and suffered terribly. I essentially fought against myself for an hour, but quickly gained control of the race, and that was what I wanted. I couldn’t lose focus and had to keep pushing myself to the limit. Building up reserves wasn’t possible, because then you’d make mistakes.
It was my second victory on this Koppenberg, and tomorrow Lokeren awaits. Next week I’ll be working on some training in the sand. The European Championships are in Middelkerke, where sea sand makes up a large part of the course. It will be difficult to defend my title. I can’t complain about my fitness but the Koppenberg course Simple’s suits me better than what we’ll be facing at the European Championships.”
