Tour Down Under: A solo effort

Alessia Vigilia on her monster 100 km solo effort

A new road season begins in Australia at the Women’s Tour Down Under!

Ally Wollaston (FDJ) claimed the first leader’s jersey on Lower Willunga Hill. But it was almost stolen by a long solo move from Alessia Vigila (Uno-X Mobility) as she attacked early with 100km off the front. She scooped up points on the climbs to secure the Queen of the Mountains jersey. Vigilia continued all the way to the finishing ramp and was finally caught in the final 250 metres by Wollaston.

“I was just focused on reaching the finish line but yeah, I was really over my limit. I really tried, but it was not enough for today.”

-Alessia Vigilia
