Christian Scaroni (XDS Astana) rode to a phenomenal final-stage powering to victory on the slopes of Jebel Akhdar at the Tour of Oman to secure the overall classification on the final day. Starting stage 5 only four seconds behind Mauro Schmid, it was Scaroni that made the decisive move. As the race hit the 5.7 km climb, Adam Yates attacked inside the final two kilometres. Schmid struggled to hold the pace as Scaroni launched his own move in the final kilometre, without response. It was enough to win the stage and a double blow that solidify both the stage victory and the overall classification in one mighty effort. Team-mate Cristian Rodriguez crossed the line in second, showing XDS Astana was indeed in control, while Luke Plapp rode in for third place.
