Magnus Cort: Like winning at home

Magnus Cort Nielsen (UnoX) has won stage 2 of the Volta a Catalunya. He took an important victory, his first of the year and first at the World Tour level since the 2024 Criterium du Dauphine.

“It was a difficult stage. Coming down from Olot, there was a lot of fighting for positions on the downhill. I didn’t like it too much so I was a bit far back.

The team kept believing in me, and I don’t know how they succeeded, but Anders piloted me from the last position to first between 3km and 1.5km to go. Then I had Anthon to deliver the last bit. It was amazing, really good teamwork.

In Catalunya, you have many similar stages to this, sprints from reduced groups. It suits me well, which is why I’ve wanted to come here for many years. Finally, I’m here and very excited to win. It’s a place I now very well. When I first turned pro, I was living here for many years. I still love coming here for training camps, and I’ve been on this road a million times on rest days. For me, it’s like winning at home.”

Cort is second overall in the GC, same time with Godon. Evenepoel is third at four seconds, while Pidcock is fourth at six seconds.
