GP Miguel Indurain: Third win for Izagirre and confidence for the Tour of Basque Country

At 37, the Basque rider, Ion Izagirre produced a remarkable feat by winning the GP Miguel Indurain in a solo breakaway. As part of the day’s breakaway, set the pace and attacked at the right moment to win alone. Izagirre is in excellent form, having recently finished in seventh at Paris-Nice. This is the 19th victory of his career and his third at the GP Miguel Indurain since winning in 2016 and 2023. Combined with teammate, Alex Aranburu’s fourth place, gives Cofidis confidence for success for the Tour of the Basque Country (Apr6-11).

“After my result in Paris-Nice, I felt in great shape and that allowed me to approach the race well. The plan was to hang on until the final climb and then give it my all. This victory is perfect for approaching the Tour of the Basque Country with confidence. I’ve been with this team for five years. I know everyone. I feel very much at home here and I’m still just as keen to live up to the trust placed in me.”
