Tour of the Alps: Pellizzari strikes!

 


Giulio Pellizzari (Red Bull) won stage 2 of the Tour of the Alps in a group sprint outpacing Thymen Arensman (Ineos) and Mattia Gaffuri (Team Picnic Post). In the finale at Val Martello, Egan Bernal finishing fourth in the lead group. Reigning Tour of the Alps champ Michael Storer couldn’t match with the pace and finished 10th 19 seconds down. 

The 22-year-old Pellizzari took his second pro win also took over the race lead, adding a four-second advantage over Arensman including bonus seconds. Pellizzari is one of the many Giro d’ltalia-bound riders racing the Tour of the Alps, preparing to share leadership with Jai Hindley at this home Gran Tour. 



“It was a crazy day. I came here three years ago and I finished third in one stage. One year after I was second on a stage, and now I’ve finally won a stage here. It’s one of the best races in the world, and I have to say thanks to my teammates; they did an amazing job. I was a bit tired before the last climb, I was not sure for the next, but in the end I won for them.”
