Girmay closer in Bergerac, Stage 9 in the red

Tim Merlier claimed his second consecutive victory on Stage 8, coming through to beat Biniam Girmay and Olav Kooij in Bergerac. Girmay produced his best sprint of the race so far to finish second, one day after finishing third in Bordeaux. With his second place - which was worth 50 points - and eighth at the intermediate sprint say Girmay close the gap to green jersey leader Mads Pedersen to just 25 down from 77 two stages ago.

‘What I see was crazy. Merlier… he is fast for the moment.”
-Biniam Girmay

“The guys were great and Bini showed again he’s capable of winning. Obviously, Merlier is fast, but the guys are really confident that we can pull it off. We’ve got a couple of opportunities next week, and we’re looking froward to those already.”

Stage nine will be shortened due to ‘intense heatwave’ and the stage will be shortened by 30lm in Correze.
