La Vuelta a Mas & Del Toro in Montreal

The finale of 81st La Vuelta 2026, was held in Granada for the first time, saw Tobias Johannessen (UNO-X Mobility) power to victory, while Enric Mas became the overall winner. He became the first Spaniard on the top step since Alberto Contador in 2014. Tobias Johannessen got the better of Alessandro Romele in a two-man sprint. Wout van Aert is the 13th Belgian winner of the points classification. Santiago Buitrago is the fifth Colombian climber to conquer the mountains standings. Oscar Onley is the first British winner of the young rider classification.

“This time a Grand Tour lead became ‘vacant’, and Enric seized that opportunity. That’s not a gift; it’s thanks to his hard work and his form. He was the strongest.”

-Alberto Contador

“I had it in my head that I would not do anything before trying to be in the last corner in the first position, and then go full gas from there. So, I just cannot believe that I could do it today. It feels so good.”
-Tobias Johannessen

Isaac Del Toro is the new king of Mount Royal at the 15th Grand Prix Cycliste de Montreal. The 22-year-old triumphed after a 5 hour, 13 minute, 16 second race covering the 214.4 km course winning his sprint duel against French prodigy Paul Seixas.

Brandon McNulty, winner of the 2025 edition, finished third, allowing UAE to place two riders on the podium for the second consecutive year. It was the 19-year-old Seixas who triggered the decisive selection 10km from the finish. The Frenchman attacked in the final meters of the Camillien-Houde climb, leaving most of his rivals behind.

Del Toro was able to respond. The Mexican chased after Seixas, setting the stage for duel between tow of cycling’s brightest rising stars. The two riders, who had already battled for the white jersey of best young rider in the last Tour de France, where they finished 3rd and 4th respectively, found themselves fighting for victory on the streets of Montreal.

The Mexican ultimately prevailed in the sprint to claim his first victory at the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montreal.
