Kigali: Ben Healy takes home the bronze, Pidcock and Pogacar doubles

The world championships road race course was billed as one of the hardest in history. With over 5,000 meters of climbing, cobblestones, windy technical descents, the winner will have the extra grit to perservere.

Tadeg Pogacar completed a double-double, winning back-to-back Tour de France victories and consecutive road world championship titles. He launched his attack with 100 kilometres to go on a 267.5km route with a winning time of 6:21:20. The brutal course in the land of a thousand hills, which is also 1000 meters higher than the Zurich course from last year's edition - was no match for the Slovenian.

Ben Healy finished third at the world championships adds to a successful year for the Irish cyclist. He also secured a podium at Liege-Bastogne-Liege, a stage win at the Tour de France, and wore the yellow jersey for two stages.

"This season is just getting crazier and crazier to be honest. From a stage win and the yellow jersey at the Tour to now podium at worlds, it is hard to compare."
-Ben Healy

"The energy and the resources were going down towards the end, and it was so hard over the few final laps. You doubt a bit, but you push through and hope for the best. It was an incredible experience altogether."
-Tadeg Pogacar
