La Vuelta: A great escape… sort of

During the final kilometers of stage 11, the race was suddenly neutralized as the race reached the Basque Country where the anti-Israel protests at the finish meant that times were taken with 3 kilometers to go. There was no official stage winner, but on the climb Tom Pidcock and Jonas Vingegaard attacked and took time on the rest of the field.

The pair escaped on the final climb of the day, the Alto de Pike. They descended to an improvised finish with 3km to go, appearing to take around 10 seconds on other riders.

Tom Pidcock broke away to come to the premature finish first

"It's hard to describe the disappointment to be honest. I felt like today was my day. I feel like there should always be a finish line, we're not riding a fucking sportive are we?

Putting us in danger isn't going to help your cause. It simply isn't going to help what they're they're protesting. Everyone's got the right to protest, whatever they want, but yeah, putting us in danger it's not the way forward."
-Tom Pidcock

The overall ranking after stage 11. Tom Pidcock gained bonus seconds at Alto de Pike, climbs onto the podium. Jonas Vingegaard has gained 12 seconds on Joao Almeida, for a gap of 50 seconds...
