After the race exploded on the hills the day prior, Brandon McNulty and Mattias Skjelmose were the two contenders for overall victory. The Dane starting the 26-kilometer time-trial in Niederanen with 8 seconds of lead. The stage was up for grabs for the specialists. British national champion Ethan Hayter (Soudal) averaging 51.5kph and holding the lead, whilst Brandon McNulty overtook Mattias Skjelmose to take over the race lead ahead of the final day of the race. With one stage to go, McNulty has a lead of 47 seconds on Skjelmose, and 1:04 on Richard Carapaz who jumped four spots to third overall.
"It wasn't the easiest time trials in my career. I pushed a hard tempo, and maybe it took a bit until I found my rhythm, but I then managaed to sustain it and tried to give everything I had each time the road went up. I love time trials and I'm happy to show again what I'm capable of in this type of races."
